What the calculator shows

Why astrologers read the navamsa

The birth chart shows what a planet promises; the navamsa shows whether it keeps the promise. A planet that looks strong in D1 but falls debilitated in D9 is read as delivering less than it seems; one that looks weak in D1 but is exalted or vargottama in D9 has hidden strength that shows up over time. That is why a good reading never judges a planet from the birth chart alone — and why “my Saturn is debilitated” is only half a sentence until the D9 is checked.

Reading it for marriage

The classical sequence: the D9 lagna and its lord (what you bring); the D9 7th house — planets in it and where its lord sits (the partnership); Venus for relationships in general and traditionally for a man's spouse, Jupiter for a woman's; and the Darakaraka (lowest-degree planet, from Jaimini). Benefics in or aspecting the D9 7th are read as ease; Mars, Saturn or Rahu there as friction to be managed. Then compare with the D1 7th house and run Guna Milan for the pair. A word about birth time

The navamsa lagna changes sign about every 13 minutes, nine times faster than the birth lagna.
