In short

Numerology by date of birth gives two core numbers. Your Mulank (birth or psychic number) is the day of birth reduced to one digit: 28 → 2+8 = 10 → 1. Your Bhagyank (destiny or life path number) is the full date reduced: 28-05-1994 → 2+8+0+5+1+9+9+4 = 38 → 11 → 2. Each number is ruled by a planet: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars.

What the calculator shows

Your mulank, bhagyank and Western life path (with master numbers kept), the arithmetic that produced them, the planet behind each, a short reading of each number with its strengths and watch-outs, whether your two numbers are friendly with each other, your personal year for the current year, and the lucky days, colours and dates of the month that convention attaches to your mulank. A reference card for all nine numbers sits underneath.

Mulank vs bhagyank

The mulank is the quick read: how you come across, how you react, what you reach for first. The bhagyank is the slow one: where the road tends to go, what life keeps bringing back. Indian numerologists read the mulank as dominant until around 35 and the bhagyank after. When the two are the same number, nature and destiny agree (and the number's faults are doubled); when they are unfriendly numbers, people describe an inner tug-of-war. The result tells you which you have.

Why the planets?

Chaldean numerology, the system Indian practitioners mostly use, assigns each number to a planet: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars. The planet's character becomes the number's character, and the planet's friendships become the number's friendships, which is where “lucky numbers”, days and colours come from. The planets are shared in name only: numerology's planets are a convention, while the kundli computes where the planets actually were.

How seriously to take it

As a mirror, not a measurement. There is no evidence that the digits of a date shape a life, and we present numerology as the tradition does. People find it a useful vocabulary for reflecting on temperament; that is a fair use. For anything with stakes, a career or a match, the tradition itself points to the birth chart, and our other calculators are built on that.

How the numbers are computed

Plain arithmetic, shown on the result so you can check it.

Mulank
Day of the month, digits summed until one digit (28 → 10 → 1).
Bhagyank
Every digit of DD-MM-YYYY summed, reduced to one digit (no master numbers, per Indian convention).
Life path
Month, day and year each reduced, then summed and reduced — keeping 11, 22 and 33 (Western convention).
Personal year
Day + month + current year, reduced.
Friendly / enemy
The common Chaldean convention of planetary friendships; sources vary slightly, and we note that.
