How do I calculate my name number?

Accepted Answer

Give each letter a value from a chart, add them up, and reduce. In the Chaldean chart (used by most Indian numerologists): A I J Q Y = 1, B K R = 2, C G L S = 3, D M T = 4, E H N X = 5, U V W = 6, O Z = 7, F P = 8; no letter is 9. In the Pythagorean chart, A to I are 1 to 9, then J to R are 1 to 9 again, then S to Z are 1 to 8. The calculator does both and shows every letter.

Chaldean or Pythagorean — which is more accurate?

Neither is 'accurate' in a testable sense; they are two conventions. Chaldean is older, based on sound, keeps the compound number (e.g. 23) as meaningful and is what Indian numerologists use. Pythagorean is simpler and is what most Western sites use. They usually give different numbers for the same name. Pick one system and stay inside it — Chaldean if you are comparing with mulank or bhagyank.

Which name should I enter — full name, first name, nickname?

The name you are actually known by and sign with, spelt as you spell it. Numerology of the name is about the name in use. Many practitioners read the first name on its own as well as the full name; the calculator lets you try both in seconds.

Which name numbers are lucky and which should be avoided?

Chaldean tradition singles out compound numbers: 19, 23, 24, 27, 37, 41 and 51 are among the favoured; 12, 16, 18, 22, 26, 29, 43 among the cautioned. These are conventions from Cheiro's writing, not findings. The calculator shows the note for your compound number.

Should my name number match my mulank or bhagyank?

That is the idea behind 'name correction': a name number friendly to your birth numbers is held to help, one at odds with them to hinder. Use the Chaldean number for the comparison, and check it against the friendly/enemy numbers on the numerology calculator.

Does changing a spelling actually do anything?

Accepted Answer

There is no evidence that it does, and we will not tell you otherwise. People change spellings for many reasons, including this one; if it makes someone feel better about their name, that is a real, if small, effect. What it does not do is change a birth chart. We do not charge for spelling variants; try as many as you like.

Why does Chaldean numerology skip 9?

In the Chaldean tradition 9 is held sacred and is not assigned to a letter; it can still appear as a result when the total reduces to 9. Pythagorean numerology assigns 9 to I and R.

What are soul urge and personality numbers?

Accepted Answer

Pythagorean refinements: the vowels of the name add up to the soul urge (what you want underneath); the consonants to the personality number (how you come across); all letters to the expression number (the whole). The calculator shows all three.

Can I use a Hindi or regional name?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in its usual English spelling. Because the charts work on letters, the spelling matters — Sita and Seeta give different numbers. That is why we say use the name as you actually write it.

The same arithmetic applies; enter the name as it is written and read. Practitioners often look for a compound number in the favoured list and a single number friendly to the owner's mulank.
