What the calculator shows
Today's mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantar with start and end dates. Your Moon's nakshatra and degree, and the balance of dasha at birth. The complete 120-year timeline: tap any mahadasha to open its nine antardashas, and the running antardasha shows its pratyantars. And a short reading of what the current mahadasha lord is held to bring, with the conditions under which it goes well or badly.
How the system works
The zodiac's 27 nakshatras are assigned to the nine grahas in a repeating cycle of nine. The lord of your birth nakshatra starts your dasha sequence, and how far the Moon had travelled through that nakshatra tells you how much of the first period was already “used” before you were born. After that the order is fixed and the lengths are fixed, so the whole life's timeline is set by one number: the Moon's longitude at birth. That is why the birth nakshatra matters so much, and why two people with the same Moon sign can be in completely different periods.
Three levels
The mahadasha sets the theme of a stretch of years. The antardasha — the sub-period, whose lord takes the same proportional share — gives the chapter within it: a Saturn–Venus antardasha and a Saturn–Mars antardasha are very different years. The pratyantar divides further, down to weeks, and is what astrologers look at to time a specific event. Each level is the same arithmetic applied again.
“Which dasha is worst?”
You will read that Rahu, Saturn and Ketu are to be feared and Jupiter and Venus to be welcomed. It is half true at best. A dasha lord delivers according to its condition in your chart — its sign and dignity, the house it sits in, the houses it rules from your lagna, and the planets with it. A strong Saturn gives nineteen years of steady building; a debilitated Jupiter can give sixteen of over-promising. The result names where each lord sits so the AI, or a human astrologer, can read it properly.
Why birth time and ayanamsa matter here
The Moon moves about half a degree an hour. Four minutes of birth-time error shifts every dasha date by a week or two; an hour, by several months. A different ayanamsa does the same. The result prints the Moon's exact degree and the ayanamsa so you can compare with any other calculator rather than wonder which one is right.
How this calculator works
- Moon
- Sidereal longitude from the ELP lunar theory, Lahiri ayanamsa, birth time resolved through the real time zone of the birth place.
- Start
- Lord of the Moon's nakshatra; balance = (1 − fraction of nakshatra crossed) × that lord's years.
- Sub-periods
- Antardasha = mahadasha years × sub-lord years ÷ 120, in sequence from the mahadasha lord; pratyantar repeats the rule one level down.
- Year length
- 365.25 days — the convention almost all software uses; some use the savana year (360 days), which drifts by about 5 days a year.
The same engine casts the full janam kundli, so results here and there always agree. How we check the maths →

| Rahu | 18 | ambition, foreign things, sudden rises | Rahu is in the 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th, or in Taurus/Gemini — worldly success, fame, life abroad. | Rahu is on the lagna, 7th, 8th, 12th or with the Moon — confusion, deception, addictions, instability. |
| Jupiter | 16 | growth, wisdom, children, blessings | Jupiter is in Cancer, Sagittarius, Pisces or a kendra/trikona — prosperity, children, honour, good advice. | Jupiter is in Capricorn or the 6th/8th/12th — over-optimism, weight, expenses, disputes with teachers. |
