What the calculator shows
The twelve cusps with longitude, sign lord, star and star lord, sub lord and sub-sub lord; the nine planets with house, lords and the houses each signifies (simplified four-fold); the ruling planets for the moment you cast the chart; and the ayanamsa value actually used, so you can compare with any KP software.
How KP reads a chart
For any matter, KP asks one question first: does the sub lord of the relevant cusp signify the houses that promise it? Marriage — does the 7th cusp sub lord signify 2, 7 or 11? Career — does the 10th's signify 2, 6, 10 or 11? Children — the 5th's, 2, 5 or 11? If yes, the matter is promised; then the Vimshottari dasha and bhukti lords that signify those same houses give the timing. It is a mechanical, answer-oriented system, and that is its appeal.
Why the ayanamsa and cusps matter so much
A sub can be as narrow as 40′ of arc, so a few minutes of ayanamsa or a few minutes of birth time can move a cusp to a different sub lord, and so to a different answer. That is why KP insists on its own ayanamsa, on Placidus cusps with exact degrees, and on rectifying the birth time with ruling planets. Our rectification tool and the lagna window show how sensitive your chart is.
How this calculator works
- Positions
- VSOP87/ELP planets, mean node; Lahiri ayanamsa shifted by −5.2′ to approximate KP New (value printed).
- Cusps
- Placidus from local sidereal time and latitude (iterated semi-arc method), then sidereal with the KP ayanamsa.
- Lords
- Sign lord by sign; star lord by nakshatra; sub and sub-sub by Vimshottari proportions (Ketu 7 … Mercury 17) from the star lord.
- Significators
- Star lord's house and houses; planet's house and houses (simplified; conjunctions/aspects not weighed).
- Ruling planets
- Day lord, rising degree and Moon lords at the moment of casting, at the birth place.
