In short

A rudraksha is the dried seed of the Elaeocarpus tree, worn as a bead. Each mukhi (number of natural grooves) is assigned to a planet: 1 and 12 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 and 13 Venus, 7 and 14 Saturn, 8 Rahu, 9 Ketu. The common method picks the bead of your lagna lord, 5th or 9th lord, or running dasha lord; the 5 mukhi is held to suit everyone.

What the calculator shows

The bead (or beads) for your lagna lord, your 9th and 5th lords, your Moon sign lord and the lord of your running mahadasha, each with deity, purpose, mantra and the day to start; and the full table of 14 mukhis with yours highlighted.

How people choose

Three conventions overlap. The simplest goes by the Moon sign; the astrologer's version goes by the lagna lord and the benefic lords of the 5th and 9th; the timing version goes by the planet whose dasha is running. They often agree; where they do not, the lagna lord is the usual first choice and the 5 mukhi the universal default. Unlike gemstones, rudraksha beads are not held to harm, so choosing is low-stakes.

What we do not claim

That a seed changes planetary influence. The tradition is devotional and old, and the bead is a discipline and a reminder for many people, which is a fair thing to value. Buy certified beads if you buy at all; we sell nothing.
